It’s funny how we all value various things differently and indeed how our common perceptions of value can change overtime, or even overnight, depending upon the forces acting upon our decision making processes. Gustave Flaubert once said that “there is no truth, only perception” and the guys over at vouchercloud decided to take a closer look at this theory, to see if value really is only in the eye of the beholder.
The infographic below looks at how our perception of the value of certain products like lobster has changed over time. For instance, did you know that this shellfish was once considered to be fit to be consumed only by the poorest in society? In fact, lobster shells about the house were once looked upon as signs of degradation and were commonly fed to prisoners and servants. In contrast, today there are served in fine-dining restaurants all over the world and come with a high price tag.
